I will be in Venice for the regatta. I would love to see it but don't want to be sandwiched between masses of crowds lining the Grand Canal. Does anyone know if there are opportunities to purchase reserved seating, hopefully on some balcony overlooking the canal?

We will be in Venice for the Regatta Storica as well. The website www.veniceexplorer.com has some good suggestions about good viewing areas, and we will be asking for suggestions at our hotel, too. It sounds amazing...really looking forward to it!

We went in 2011, but did not reserve seats. We just staked a place out early and found a great view near the Rialto bridge. Some people make reservations at a restaurant with an outside balcony and linger to watch the races. I think there was a small area with seats that could be reserved ahead of time, but not sure how expensive that was.
