What's the best and the most scenic drive from Venice to Ravenna? I've heard conflicting opinions about taking the old Via Romia down the coast, but am not looking forward to driving highways. Thanks.
Neither is very scenic. E55, coastal route, has a very few scenic glimpses and none are ocean. It's mostly local single lane roads through towns with slow traffic, stop lights etc. Alot of trucks use that route also. As the crow flies it's straighter but as the traffic goes it will take you almost twice as long as A4/A13/A14. One good stop off on that route is Pompossa Abbey. The autostrada is'nt really that bad. If you're jittery about it just stay in the right lanes.
Remember you can use Google Maps Streetview as a tool to take a look for yourself at any point along the way.
I agree with Ron. There's really not a lot to see. I even looked for Flamingos in the places identified by my TCI book and saw none. I had a special reason to follow the lagoon to the bottom and find Comacchio where my father was in the war. Other than a three sided bridge I was not impressed.
