Venice Questions re Ca' Rezzonico and Murano

Is the Ca' Rezzonico free admission on the first Sunday of the month? Rick's Venice book says that it is, but the website does not.

Also, a question re Murano: given a three day stay in Venice (the first day of which I am anticipating will be compromised at least in part by jet lag), is Murano worth the time and the trip, given that there is plenty to keep us busy in the city proper? I have been to Venice a number of times (never going to Murano because I wasn't particularly interested) but my family has not and there is so much I want to show them off the beaten tourist track.

I know that any answer to this question is highly subjective, but I would like to hear others' opinions.

I finally went to Murano on my 5th trip to Venice. While it was fine, I prefer Burano. And, with only three days, I would not go to either island as there is too much I want to see in Venice proper.

I enjoyed Torcello the best of the “outer islands”, followed by Burano then Murano. If you want to see the glass making, then Murano is worthwhile, but many of the shops there selling cheap glass ornaments are Far East imports.

The colourful buildings on Burano are attractive, but it was busy when I was there in January, so photographs without people were difficult to take.

As to whether you should see Murano depends on your interests. I wouldn’t see Murano instead of say St Marks or the Doges Palace, but I have a limit to how many church paintings and frescoes I can take in one trip.

Don't plan on free admission. I see where you found that note about Ca' Rezzonico, but it's not mentioned elsewhere in Rick's books. In addition, the policy of free admission that generally applied to Italy's state-run museums has been withdrawn this year.
