Venice question

Hello all,

Looking for some advice. We arrive in Venice on a Saturday and due to the long flight we don’t really want to have any bookings to play it by ear with exploring and potential jet lag. We are trying to determine our next three days, being the Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Trying to decide when to book the Doge’s palace and St. Marks. For St. Marks Sundays hours are restricted to the afternoon and being August, would this be too hot and busy, would a Monday be better? Or our last day the Tuesday? We also want to go out to the Lido and spend some hours on the beach for our daughter to have a break, would this be a better plan on a Sunday or Monday? We are also thinking Murano or Burano but would Sunday be a difficult time with things being closed? Any thoughts on how to work this out would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely a good idea to not go hard after the long flight.

Venice is a city made for relaxed wandering. The core around St Marks will be crazy busy during most tourist seasons, but wandering further afield farther from those "key" tourist spots pays real dividends. On your arrival day, depending upon where your hotel is, look at the map and head in the direction away from the core.

Venice, obviously, is a city made for being on the water. Make use of the vaporettos and get out on the water to see Venice that way. We really enjoyed just spending time on the water cruising to Murano, Burano, and Torcello as well as seeing the various little islands out there. It's just fun to be on the water - from a ride down the Grand Canal to the trips out to the various islands.

Timing things is tough with a Sunday and a Monday in the mix, but plot it out and enjoy. It's a busy busy place, but it is also a lovely place - especially after the day crowds ebb away (early morning or later in the evening). Get up early and explore, maybe plan tourist stuff for first spot in the AM or later spots in the afternoon.

We've been to Murano and Burano on a Sunday. Some shops were closed, but it is a tourist destination, so many thing were open. And both places are beautiful places to just walk and look about even if some places are closed. And there were plenty of places to eat that were open. Hope this helps.
