I'm in Venice and looking for a local place to eat away from the tourist area

This place was awesome - but get a reservation for the courtyard. The lady who let us into our apartment recommended it... it is called Al Profeta, but on trip advisor it comes up as Il Profeta (not sure the difference). My son had a filet with the most delicious bacon on it I have ever tasted.

It is in Dorsoduro and might be hard to find - the address on trip advisor doesn't seem right when I put it in google maps...

This address seems to be more where it is... not the trip advisor one:
2669, Calle San Barnaba - 30123 or
Calle Lunga S. Barnaba, 2669
30100 Venezia
Italy

We went down along the San Barnaba canal, turned left near the little bridge at the end, then another left, then look for the lantern (I think....)

Get a reservation though for the courtyard!!

Enjoy!
Kim

this may be the phone number

AL PROFETA
2669, Calle San Barnaba - 30123 Venezia (VE)

Two weeks ago, we ate at Osteria da Alberto in the Cannereggio district, on the border of the Castello. Our hotel recommended it and it's in Rick's book as one of his standbys in Venice. Nothing fancy and lots of locals. Reservations recommended. It's on Calle Larga Giacinto Gallina.

We went to Osteria Antico Giardinetto in September 2011. However, recent polls on TripAdvisors gave it a 4.5 stars. It is not easy to find. But the food was so worth it! The owners Larisa & Virgilio are husband and wife team. Virgilio is the Chef and Larisa serves the tables. Larisa is very warm, personable and will explain the menu in detail. Ask your hotel rep for directions or Google Map the directions. http://www.anticogiardinetto.it/

Calle dei Morti 2253, Santa Croce 30135 Venezia
P. I. 03765430271

Enjoy!

We enjoyed a couple meals at this place. It was good. The Branzino was terrific and we had a couple bottles of very nice reasonably priced wine. We were staying in Dorsoduro so it was quite convenient to our hotel.

Taverna San Trovaso

We ate at Osteria Alba Nova Dalla Maria. It's in the Santa Croce area, a 5 minute walk from the Vaporetto stop.
It is a local place very very small. Our meal was fantastic. Maria ( the owner and cook) speaks fluent English.
The address is: Lista vecchia dei bari, S. Croce 1252, 30135 Venezia, Italy

We really enjoyed All Amarone wine bar in San Toma area (not too far a walk from Rialto)...we stumbled on it while walking down an alley.

Food portions were perfect, prices were reasonable, staff was friendly and the food was good...and if you like wine (we don't) they do tastings...
