Venice/Peggy Guggenheim: Do I need to purchase tickets ahead of time?

Hey Gang.

Do I need to purchase tickets ahead of time for Peggy Guggenheim? Rick's Venice book says no but wanted to double check with ya'll. The world changes quickly. :)

Thanks!

I think you're right, WrenG, the world of travel is changing so quickly and the guidebooks can not keep up. I'm interested in the answer you get and if folks in the know want to provide information on any other Venice sites that need prepurchased tickets, that'd be great.

I was in Venice in Sept. 2019 and bought the tickets to the Peggy Guggenheim museum on the same day. There wasn't a line.

Per the museum's website:

It is advisable to purchase tickets online by choosing the preferred
entry time slot until it is sold out. Tickets can also be purchased at
the museum's ticket office, subject to availability.

More up to date info on their website.

There were lines at the Guggenheim both times I walked past it in September 2022. I didn't ask whether they were ticket-buying lines or waiting-to-get-in lines; I just decided it would be smart to buy a ticket for the next day, so I went online and did that. When I arrived with a ticket, I had only a brief wait for my entry time. I've never heard the museum sells out days in advance, but judging by the number of people in the museum when I was there, it is very popular, so if you don't have a lot of time in Venice, I think it would be smart to monitor ticket availability and buy at least one day ahead. I imagine some entry times do sell out days in advance.

The museum was larger than I was expecting, and the number of people sharing the space added a bit of time to the visit.

Hi-
In spring 2022 I missed out as all of the tickets were sold out for the days that I was in Venice. This year, for my trip in early April (the week after Easter), I purchased my tickets in advance. I was glad I did as many of the time slots, if not the whole days sold out. I had a wonderful time there - have a great trip!

There's usually not a problem with buying same-day tickets for the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. I recommend getting the audio guide, too.

I was there in May 2022, and waited in line, at opening, for about 15 minutes to buy a ticket.

I was there in the summer of 2017. I just walked inside and got my ticket. It was late afternoon. Loved the museum in her house and the amazing art there.

Also loved that I got a senior discount. I was 71 at the time and I obviously looked old enough that I didn't have to show my ID. ;-)

I was just there in March (2024) and purchased the tickets a couple of weeks ahead of our visit from the website. While there was not a long line, there were four or five people waiting in line when we arrived, and the museum was packed to the doors in every room.
