Which is the better place to park our rental car, Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto? Our hotel gives vaporetto directions from either lot, but we wouldn't have to change boats if we get on at Piazzale Roma.
We used Tronchetto October 2006. PR requires you to leave your car keys. Tronchetto you park, lock up and leave.
How long will you be Venice? Can you arrange your trip to not have the car in Venice. Parking is probably around 20 euros a day at Troncheeto and you'll arlready be paying for a car you can't use. We've been flying into Venice, staying there and then picking up the car as we depart.
The Tronchetto is easy and you park and lock. When you go into the garage, park as close as you can to the other side of the garage from the entrance. The vaporetto stop is on that far side. The Tronchetto costs 20 Euros a day.
I don't think it makes a difference whether you park at Piazalle Roma or the Tronchetto as far as vaporetto routes go. I think the same routes go to both. Where is your hotel?
Ron and Doug are making really good suggestions here. Hopefully you have some flexibility in your plans. But if you have to drive to Venice, suggest you'll want to park in the Tronchetto on the side closest to the vaporetto stop, just as Doug recommends.
Search for other postings in response to Venice parking questions that recommend parking in Mestre, which is evidently much less expensive. From Mestre, there are frequent and inexpensive trains to Venice Santa Lucia station. You can catch the vaparetto right in front of the train station.
