Venice Palazzo Ducale/Doge's Palace and Marco Polo

We will be in Venice in September. Interested in reviews of Secret Itineraries vs. Hidden Treasures. We think we’d like to do the Doge's Palace, Hidden Treasures tour. It says it includes the Doge's Palace, which I assume means additional time. We'd also like to see the Marco Polo exhibit. I'm hoping/wondering if I can buy a combined ticket, meaning the tour bundled with access to Marco Polo. Also, I'm wondering if the tickets still include the Correr Museum. Anyone know?

Also, a heads up, I think this may be new--Venice on Top. It refers to the terrace on top of the Music Conservatory, or Palazzo Pisani, in addition to the rooftop terrace, there is access to the courtyard, ballroom, gardens and concert hall. Scenes from Haunting in Venice and Mission Impossible were filmed here. It's about 16 euro, and it looks like it does book out in advance and is not offered every day of the week.

My memory may be mistaken, but I believe Rick doesn't recommend the Hidden Treasures Tour. He does like the Secret Itineraries Tour. Mind you, I've never set foot in the Doge's Palace, so I have no personal opinion about any of the options there.

I think I saw a discounted price for rhe Marco Polo exhibition if you had a ticket for something else at the Doge's Palace, but I don't remember what. I think you'll find it on the DP website without too much digging.

I lost patience with the DP website, once I got to booking tickets, couldn’t see if Marco Polo was included. Also not seeing if Correr museum is still included. I’m working with a slightly old RS Venice guidebook version. Saw no mention of Hidden Treasures in the RS guide I have. Did. Read. That Hidden Treasures was newish but then there were TripAdvisor reviews going back, so I don’t know. I’m not interested in torture devices and jail cells of Secret Itineraries but reading recent reviews of Hidden Treasures sounds like it is Casanova heavy and Doge’s bedrooms are unfurnished

I've checked my notes and am now nearly certain Rick doesn't consider the Hidden Treasures Tour worth the cost. It might be worth it to you, though. Of you could use the audio guide (for which you'll need your passport).

Check online for info on the St. Mark's Square Museums ticket. It cover the Doge's Palace and the Correr as well as a few more minor museums in the area. It gets complicated when you want to add on a special exhibition or a tour. I remember flipping back and forth between at least two different web pages, trying to figure what various combos would cost.

On our latest trip to Venice, we wanted to book a tour of the clock tower, but the timing never worked out. A clock tower tour would have included admission to the Correr, so see if that combo interests you. We did eventually go to just the Correr and enjoyed it very much, although it was way, way bigger than we thought it was going to be, and the map that we mostly went there to see (even though there is a print of it in Minneapolis), the Barbari woodcut map and its original woodblocks, is at the very end right before the exit. Thanks for the info, Ann.

So if anyone else would find this information helpful, according to the place I'm staying, Marco Polo can't be added to the advance ticket, but can be added at a reduced price upon arrival to the palace. The Correr, is included in the Doge's Palace tours. They liked both special tours, but preferred Secret Itineraries. They said both guides were good, Secret Itineraries tour was longer. With both special tours, ticket holder can come before the tour time or stay later.

We just got back from Italy. The Marco Polo exhibit was only 2€ additional per person and I believe my college-age daughter was free. It’s an interesting exhibit but a bit long and we did run out of steam towards the end (the East Asian artifacts); I think most people just skimmed the end as well.

@Nancy, Oooh, super interested in the map! Is the print at the Mpls Inst of Art? or?
@ beseiz1010, thanks for the info! Was there adequate signage in English? What was your favorite thing you did in Venice?

Just to confirm: the Correr Museum is included in the Doges palace ticket.

The Marco Polo exhibit requires a separate ticket from the Doges Palace entry. We have tickets to Marco Polo but cannot get a ticket to enter the Doge around the same time, at least when trying the Doge Palace Only ticket option. Trying to get the San Marco museums ticket option instead is confusing, it keeps asking for date and times when I've already entered them.

I highly recommend the Secret Itineraries Tour. We took the English language one last October.
