I have heard some people prefer Verona over Venice if you have 4 days is it best to do 2 days in Verona 2 in Venice or 1 in Verona and 3 in Venice?
I would give Venice its due. Venice can be seen in 2 days, but I am not among those that would suggest less. I found Venice very fascinating and would've loved another day. As it were, we flew in early and had most of a fun jet-lagged day there along with the next before we departed for Verona on the 3rd day. We got a late start and took a regional train (pay for the intercity, trust me) and didn't have as much time in Verona as we would've liked, but still saw many of Verona's sites. Another day would've been nice - we could've explored some more of the wonderful architecture and churches, etc. My suggestion would be to leave late on day 3 (a cheaper hotel in Verona + early start) or early on day 4 (another charmed evening in Venice) for Verona
There's no other city in the world like Venice...don't scrimp on the time there.
Both cities are great but there is far more to see and do in Venice.
Venice hands down. No other city like it in the world. You could also do Verona as a daytrip from Venice.
I vote for 3 days Venice, 1 day Verona, but with an overnight stay. Verona in the evening is completely different, and well worth it.
Sue, are your 4 days actually 4 nights or 3 nights? Where are you staying before and after the Venice/Verona question?
Thanks for the input!
Leave Verona as a day trip rather thab skimping on your time in Venice. And, hotels in Verona aren't all that much cheaper than in Venice. Verona can fill up quickly.
We stayed 2 nights in Venice and 2 nights in Verona. I could have spent more time in each. Our lodging in Venice was quite a bit more than Verona. I would stay 2 nights in each, staying in Venice first. Then after your 2nd night in Venice you can leave later in the afternoon or early evening for Verona. That way you have a little more time in Venice, but still a full day in Verona. If you go to Verona first, after spending the 2nd night take an early train to Venice in the morning. There was a lot more to see in Verona than I thought there would be. It turned out to be one of my favorite places in Italy.
