Venice on a Sunday

We are arriving in Venice on Saturday around 3:30 by train. We have the rest of the day Saturday and Sunday...what are the top things to do and see on a Sunday? I see most tours don't operate on Sunday's. Also, best places to eat that have more then seafood as my husband is allergic. We are staying in the San Marco area.

Thanks!

Really, the very best thing to do in Venice is to walk all over the city and soak in the beauty - you can do that any day of the week.

I recommend attending Sunday morning mass. The interior domes are lit up and beautiful. It's a chance to relax and sit in the nave and take in the Church without being herded through. Sit in the center of the nave or closer to the front doors in order to look up and see the mosaics well. To enter for mass, you face the front facade of San Marco. Then, walk to the left side of the building. Enter through the side entrance. Say, "Messe". Which means mass. Pronounced may - say. Only daypacks carried under the arm are allowed or similar smaller bags/purses. Large bags have to be checked for free across the walkway. Venice is great for wandering. Impronta Cafe is a fine place to eat for excellent pasta and wine. Modern decor, clean. You can tripadvisor it.

The Mass is for participation, if you want only to observe the basilica, you should wait until the Mass is over.

I hear you about seafood allergy -- we have that in our family too.

There's a company called Select Wisely that makes foreign language laminated cards alerting waiters/kitchen staff about food allergies and other medical conditions.

Fegato all Veneziana is a Venetian specialty. AKA liver and onions. Yes, most restaurants will have options other than seafood. Worse comes to worse, they have pizza.

I've never had a problem getting vegetarian food in Italy, and there's plenty of meat to be had.
