Venice - Naples in 9 days

In May of 2013 we will arrive in Venice and depart from Naples 10 days later. As we begin to chart our itinerary, I thought I would read suggestions from all of you experienced travelers. How does this sound, Venice, Cinque Terre, a Tuscany stop, down the coast to the Amalfi coast. (skip Rome) I would love to hear your ideas? Thank You!

So you really only have 8.5 days since you'll be very tired on the day you land. With so little time I would suggest only two cities unless you want to do the whirlwind-only spend a few hours in a city type of trip. That is not the way I prefer to travel but each of us is different. If you stay in Venice for a few days you could take the train to Naples and from there visit the Amalfi coast, Sorrento and Pompeii if you wish and actually be able to take your time and enjoy those areas. The itinerary you have planned is really 4 areas in 8.5 days with a lot of travel in between. You'll spend most of your time on the train and not a lot of time exploring. Donna

I was already in Rome and Pompeii. I am thinking arrive Venice 1:30 pm on Sunday, stay 2 nights, leave for Cinque Terre early Tuesday for two nights, leave Thursday morning for somewhere in Tuscany, leave Friday for Sorrento stay on the coast until we leave Tuesday. I know its a lot of travel, but this is the second time to Italy, and we have a whole world to visit :)
