Venice-Must go to Restaurants and Gelato spots

My husband and I will be there for 3 nights, looking for any suggestions of places to try out that would be a tourist trap. We want to go where the locals would!

Sorry - do you say that do want tourist traps?

all right then...

My favourite place for cicchetti is Cantinone già Schiavi opposite the Squero and the church of San Trovaso in Dorsoduro. Yum yum.

No seats, take your plate and glass outside and lean on the wall of the small canal.

Yum.

Almost all locals for customers but several folk speak English to one degree or another and they are happy to help....

Paradiso Perduto in Cannaregio. Overwhelmingly locals. They often have live music.

For gelato, I like the artisanal chain GROM. It's sort of the Italian Ben & Jerry's, imho.

We HIGHLY recommend Enoteca Ai Artisti in Dorsoduro. It is a tiny place but the food is absolutely delicious. Everything is local and the menu changes daily depending on what inspired the chef in the market that day. We ate 2 of our 4 dinners there - absolutely loved it. We were the only "tourists" there both nights. For dinner, it is best to stop by during lunch hours and reserve a table for that evening or possibly the next evening. They book solid every day. When we came back the second time (on our last night in Venice), we told the waiter to bring us whatever he thought we should try. It was one of the best meals we had the entire trip.
I also highly recommend making an evening of cichetti! We found many fantastic bar snacks in Dorsoduro (including the one listed above - delicious) and were typically the only non-locals there.
