Venice: May/June or mid-Oct 2025

Hello folks: I would like to pick your brain on when to visit Venice. I went there over 20 years ago but my spouse has never been. We want to stay for 3-4 nights and travel slowly. There are two periods of choice:
1. the last few days of May or first week of June, or
2. the second week of Oct

I understand that neither is perfect, but it seems to me that the chance of flooding is lower in late May/early June. Oct can be very nice or miserable.

What do you think?

Take a look at the climate-summary chart in the Wikipedia entry for Venice and see what you think:

Your spring dates are likely to be a good bit warmer, which you might appreciate if you hit a rainy period. What you can be sure of is a lot more daylight hours in the spring, and probably a lot more hours of sunshine. The extra daylight is something I really appreciate, but I know lots of people don't care. I'll point out, though, that the little narrow streets in Venice don't have street lights, so navigating after dark isn't a trivial matter. But at least Venice is safe, so you don't need to worry about crime.

We went to Europe for the first time last year in October. We were in Portugal. We usually go in May/June like one of your options. The weather was pretty good-three days of rain out of 14 but we really didn’t like how early it got dark.

I would vote for May/June.
