Venice joints with class and/or character.

My wife & both enjoy restaurants which offer more than good food. Fine dinning is not the goal. For example on the Carolina beaches we eat at Tiki Bar’s, water view frontage places with special local character then add a local musician who performs local music and we are happy. Recommendations in Venice which satisfy this experience are appreciated.

In the plaza San Marco, as you face St. Marks cathedral to the left, right near it is a pizza and pasta restaurant. I don't know the name. It was recommended by our guide on the Venice tour, and may be listed in the RS guidebook. Great place to sit, not expensive. If you want music, that is the place too. At night the 2 or 3 main, historic bars on the square have very good musicians that play. There is a cover charge to sit at a table and listen, and a 1 drink minimum that is not cheap -- all told it runs about $25 to $30 per person, but it is a worthwhile experience, it is fabulous, actually. Or for free you can hang with the big crowd in back of all the tables and chairs and just stand there and listen. the musicians appreciate all the people listening and dancing too. This scene was very well covered in one of Rick's Venice TV shows. It was one of the most unique and romantic travel experience I have ever had. Unforgettable.
