Venice Italy

**For a first time visitor going to spend 2 months in Venice. What would be a good way to find the American ex-pack community? Any suggestions on finding a good apartment or Villa in a safe area? I have already contacted several realtors. Also what is up with the no dryers? How can one be found? **

Dryers are rare as power is very expensive. You can find them at the laundromat on Calle Ruga Giuffa. (There may be other laundromats in Venice, but that's one I know about.)

I would suggest you try SabbaticalHomes.com as they usually have a few in Venice. Safe? The whole city is safe. Convenient? You can walk almost anywhere in 20-30 minutes, but I like the sestieri of Castello and San Polo the best. You can, of course, also try VRBO, HomeAway, or just Goolge apartments in Venice. Most realtors are going to charge you a hefty fee, I think....

I Googled "expats in Venice" and came up with several options to explore.

Laurel has given you excellent advice. As for the dryers, when we spent a month in Venice in October we had no problem drying our laundry on the rack that was supplied with the apartment. The washers have a very fast spin cycle that gets much more water out than a standard US machine does. Even my jeans dried within a day.

If you enjoy cooking, you might look for a place in San Polo fairly near the Rialto Market so you can buy seafood and vegetables there.

For the Anglophone community, I believe Peter is referring to St. George's Anglican Church in Venice:
