Nono Risorto has a nice garden and reasonable prices as well as good (for Venice) pizza. 1-3 euros a glass for house wine as long as you aren't in Piazza San Marco. You can get a decent bottle for 10-14 euros at many of the bars. Usually you get some free nibbles too: tiny sandwiches, chips, olives. Never drank beer there, myself. One of the great features of Venice is its many small wine bars where you can enjoy a wide variety of wines for 1 - 3 Euro. Often, the bars have an array of snacks for similar prices. Stopping by several in the course of the early evening is a great way to enjoy Venice and one more reason to stay there overnight and not on the mainland.

Just like having coffee, there may be a price difference between sitting and standing. I know many of the bars do not have any seating....but the price is right!!!! It's one of the joys of Venice. Because Venice is small and intimate in many ways, a friend may call and say "I am in the area, do you want to get an apperitivo?" And inevitably, the answer is "Sure! See you in a couple of minutes."

...and, oh, don't forget the prosecco, the italian sparkling wine! It's my favorite apperitivo.

There are some good pubs there - my favorite is the Devil's Forest, down the alley next to the Disney Store (near the Rialto Bridge). They have the usual Guinness, cider, etc on tap, somewhere around 5 euro a pint. Another good one is the Inishark which is a bit more out of the way.

Hi Gary, In October we spent two great evenings at Osteria da Baco on the 'east' corner of Sal San Provolo & Calle de Rasse (behind St Marks about 2 'blocks'). 1/2 liter Carafe of house red for 5 euros and a fabulous cheese and sausage platter ~7 euros. we sat there for hours people watching - loved every minute! On our way back to the hotel we grabbed a bottle Heinekin (1.50 euro) at a kiosk across the street and took it to St Marks square to listen to the dueling orchestra! finished the first bottle and purchased a 2nd at a cafe ON the square... FIVE euros! shouldda gone back to the kiosk... D'oh! oh well, still cheaper than a cup of coffee at cafe Florian! cin cin!
