We plan to be in Venice after a cruise in September, and are looking for suggestions for day trips. The plan is to spend four or five days in Venice as our base. We have been to Burano so don't want to repeat that trip.

Have you been to Torcello? It’s very peaceful and low-key lovely.
How about Padova? Only a short train ride away. You could see the Scrovegni Chapel, which requires reservations.

Do some reserch on Verona and Vicenza. Both can be done together as a day trip from Venice. It will be a long day, but an early start and early evening return should make the day worthwhile.

Treviso, Padua, Vicenza and Verona are nice day trips from Venice; each of these towns is easily reachable by train.
If you want to explore something more "exotic" you can consider the Lido and the fishing village of Malamocco
