Venice in one day

We are taking a med cruise that ends in Venice in Oct. We Prefer not to take the cruise line excursions and want advice or help if there are local tour vendors we can use once we get off the ship, to tour Venice on our own for the day. Any help is appreciated.

Of all the cruise stops in Europe, Venice is the one I would safely say is the easiest to do on your own. It is almost impossible to get lost. The city is so well marked with signs and it is so easy to truly explore all the "back doors" Rick always talks about.

Exploring Venice on your own is easy, but check very, very carefully on what port your ship is using. It's probably not Venice, in which case you'll need to do some research on how to get from the port to Venice, which could be over an hour away.

To m all above who replied. Yes and thank you, I have been to Venice before (long time ago) and that is why I know we can tour the city on our own and do not need cruise excursions. However, since the ship does not dock exactly in Venice (I knew that too), I called them and was told that the ship tender takes us to the Lido entrance.
Please, help me out how can we get from the Lido entrance to the main Venice, i.e. St Marks square, so we can do our own sightseeing. I want to take the boat to the Moreno factory or the lace factory (done that before too) walk through the streets, have dinner and then return to the lido entrance.
Anyone can help us out here.
Thank you
Sara Y.
