I am going to Venice for 3 days in October and have booked at the Hotel Agli Alboretti (recommended by Rick Steves). We prefer a hotel in the quiet Dorsoduro area, fairly near the Salute or Accademia bridges, and I'm now looking at the Hotel Ca' Zose, as I've read some not so good reviews about the Agli Alboretti.
Has anyone stayed at any of these hotels, or do you have any other suggestions. Also, it seems that all hotels in Venice have to turn off their A/C at the end of September. Is that correct? Does that happen in all of Italy?
Any help would be appreciated.
This place seems to get good reviews:
I would check out tripadvisor.com to see recent reviews of any place you're thinking about staying.
I'm also headed to Venice in October and I'll be staying at the Locanda Silva (recommended by Rick too) and it gets good reviews. I don't know what you're looking for, but I just wanted someplace clean, decent, and relatively inexpensive. Locanda Silva seemed to fit the bill.
Their website, in case you're interested, is www.locandasilva.it
Happy travels!
My husband and I spent 2 nights in Venice at the end of June. We stayed in a hotel called Palazzo Guardi. We found it on hostelworld.com. It is far from a hostel though. We had a very large room and bathroom. It was really beautiful and the breakfast included was really good too. It was defintely worth the price for what you got. The location is also pretty great, right at the Accademia bridge. The staff was really helpful and provided some great restaurant suggestions, maps and everything. Hope that help. Safe travels!
Wow.....looks like several of us all had the same idea. We'll be in Venice in October also. I second the recommendation to check trip advisor for reviews. Venice is our splurge on this trip. We are staying at the Locanda Ovidius on the Grand Canal....also a Rick recommendation. Making up for what we are spending in Venice on our accomodations in Rome. :)
Thanks, Ron, but I checked with Accademia and they are fully booked.
Here is another favorite as well:
But being a favorite may mean it is booked as well.
If you are staying three nights, you may want to consider an apartment instead of a hotel. We always enjoy doing that. We haven't stayed at a hotel in Venice for a very long time, preferring apartments.
There are several agencies, we used these folks last year and had good luck.
We too, will be in Venice close to that time....Sept. 26-29. Found Hotel Mocenigo through R.S.'s book and it was gushed over on TripAdvisor. It's just past Rialto Bridge in Santa Croce district - AWAY from the main tourist areas. Before the euro raced off, thot it was a good deal for Venice - e145, but now? Still sticking w/ it though. The guys that run it have been fabulous w/ emailing and general helpfulness, so am already impressed.
Patricia,
In answer to your question about the A/C...the weather is so nice in late September-early October you probably won't need air conditioning.
Thanks for all your suggestions - will check up on all the hotels - I did on some already and will on the others. Haven't heard from anyone who has actually stayed at the Agli Alboretti, but we may end up there.
Bill, thanks for the info on the A/C. Hopefully it will be cool and quiet enough!
Patricia
