Venice in March

Hi I'm visiting Venice on March 21st to March 23rd. I have been to Venice just once before -in May- and only for 24 hours. My memories are all including what everything is like when the weather is beautiful and tourist activities are in full swing. I'm slightly worried that everything will be a lot different in March. I know it will be nice to not have as many people there and I have to just take pot luck with the weather but will it be too quiet?...eg. Will musicians be playing in the evening at St Marks Square.....Can gondala rides be taken in the evening..... Will breakfast be still taken on the terrace -as advertised at the hotel?...etc. Thanks for advice

Breakfast on the terrace will be very weather dependent! LIke anywhere. you can get the occasional warm day, but early mornings are likely to be quite cool. You can still enjoy Venice is less-than-perfect weather! Plan outdoor activities as well as "backup" ones. We like to walk and walk when it is nice out (at least not raining!), but save the museums for when it is just to unpleasant to stay outside. The Accademia and Guggenheim are perfect for that. And if it is not raining, the cool season makes for great walking weather: fewer crowds, less sweat. Do have a good raincoat with a hood or rainhat. I find umbrellas awkward in a crowd, but many do carry them. Of course the itinerant umbrella sales guys will magically appear along with any drops of rain. You can always duck into a bar for un cioccolato caldo!

Nothing is definete of course but I was in Venice for several days in the beginning of March last year. Light jacket weather the whole time I was there. Musicians were out and we took a gondola ride but it was late afternoon. And it was still quite crowded.
