Venice in January

Hello, can anybody recommend the most interesting things to do in Venice on January 2-5, 2024?

Not asking about the obvious touristy things like gondolas and San Marco.

Just wondering what works and what does not in that time of year (cold weather, some stores closed, etc.)

Thanks!

Monitor the weather and tides and aqua alta situations.

And watch some Youtube videos from the appropriate season. Apparently snow is not uncommon.

We’ve been in the colder months a couple of times (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb) and found it very peaceful without so many tourists. Great time to gorge on museums and churches without crowds. We didn’t let rain bother us (much) when it happened and it was kind of fun to see an acqua alta in progress and how people deal with it.

Great museum we almost missed, the Natural History Museum. It endured a ten-year-long renovation so when we visited in 2012 it was newly reopened and very well done. A refreshing break from older museums full of heavy art. The Museum of Modern Art is also great and not as frequented.

Our trip was in Feb and it was coat weather, but not that cold.

We took a lesson on rowing with rowvenice.org. You will have a new appreciation for the skill of the gondoliers!
We also spend a whole day on the ferries going to Murano and Burano. Burano is gorgeous!
We attended an evening concert at San vidal church - interpreti veneziani is the website.
We liked the Guggenheim museum.

We were there 1-4th Jan this year. We did almost the same as the poster above. row Venice was awesome and a great way to see the back canals.

Murano and Burano take a full day. It’s quite in the morning on both those islands.

We also did Doges Palace Seceret Iternaries which was good and the museum was not that crowded.

also did some glass making in Venice which we loved

Easy to find plenty of restaurants.

The 1st was busy but got quieter through the week.

Have fun.
