Hi,
I will have a free weekend when I’m in Italy in early November, so I’m looking to visit a place I haven’t been to already. I’ve been to Rome, Florence, Siena, Bologna, Cinque Terre, and the Amalfi Coast. Never been to Venice. Has anyone been there during this time of year? Is it a good time to visit? I will be working in a town that’s about a two hour drive or train ride away. Since I will have a car, how close can I get if I drive? Where could I drop the car and then go on to the city?
Thanks in advance!
There is a big parking garage after you cross the bridge to Venice at Piazzale Roma. It is a tad pricey, but then you are a short walk to the vaporetto dock. Where are you staying? Regional trains are pretty cheap and will take you to Santa Lucia station a little further into Venice than Piazzale Roma.
I have been in Venice in December, January, and February. November should be very pleasant with the crowds at a minimum, although there is never a time that Venice does not have plenty of visitors.
As Sam stated any time is a good time to visit Venice. I have been there in November. Be aware November and March are Venice's rainy season so you may have to deal with wet weather and possibly acqua alta or street flooding. This is when the elevated walkways are erected for people to get around.
I was there for acqua alta. I thought it was going to be a huge nuisance but it was really something to see. I am glad I was there in early November. The crowds were almost non-existent (for Venice).
