Venice hotels with a view?

Hi,
My husband and I will be in Venice for 3 nights in April 2020. I was looking at Ad Place but the more I look at it online, the less I like it. Has anyone stayed there?

Here's what I'd like ideally: A light, bright comfortable room with a view. I prefer a boutique hotel, inn, b&b with character but a comfortable bed and clean shower. A decent breakfast would be a plus. I don't care if it's a view of the grand canal, a smaller canal, or some other quintessential Venice sight, but I would like to be able to look at the window and feel like I'm in Venice. A decent size - at least 200 sq. ft. and preferably closer to 300+ (so maybe junior suite?) would be fabulous. I've seen some that say they're 150 sq. ft. and I'm wondering where I would even put our suitcases and whether there would be room for a chair, let alone two chairs. And really small spaces make me claustrophobic. Budget is up to about $400 US per night, though if I could get it for less that would be fine too. Some places I've looked at online are Pensione Accademia and Foscari Palace. Any thoughts on those? Other suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice!

We really liked Casa Rezzonico, a small B&B on one of the small side canals. At least two of their rooms have windows that open out onto the canal, with a nearby church bell tower in view. The bells do ring, but only during civilized hours.

Here's that view: https://flic.kr/p/fjiCp4
And here's the view in the other direction: https://flic.kr/p/fjxNTh

And they have a delightful garden out back where you have breakfast if the weather's decent. (One highlight of our time there was when some local guys serenaded a friend of theirs on the other side of the canal. Guitars and everything.)

I stayed in the Hotel Continental for a night in 2015.
It's right on the Grand Canal, and has a breakfast terrace at water level so you can watch all the activity on the water.
I asked for, and got, a room on the top floor with windows over the Grand Canal.

It looks like it's had a reno since I was there; and it was already really nice.
It's within walking distance of the train station on the same side of the G. Canal.

I agree with the comment and endorsement fo Casa Rezzonico.
I would not hesitate to spend my nights there in Venice. I had a garden view for the very top apartment, so I could see venetian rooftops and it was very enjoyable.
The small canal out front was pretty, too.
I don't find myself spending that much time in my room, so the view is somewhat of a fading novelty as my stay continues.

I also like the area where Casa Rezzonico is and how easily I can get to other parts of Venice.

Give it a look. And get yourself some gelato at il Doge on campo santa margherita.

I have stayed at the Hotel Colombina on a Side canal by Piazza San Marco, some rooms have canal views and boat pickup on the property.$400 might be tough.

I’ve stayed at Foscari palace in a Grand Canal view room and loved it. Very nice welcoming staff who went out of their way for my mom who’s in a wheelchair. Their rooftop terrace is small but a great place for a drink. Watching the traffic go by on the canal was fun and watching/listening to the gondoliers getting their boats ready in the morning gave us a small glimpse of life for residents. I thoroughly recommend it.

SJ tip was helpful - the Venice portion of our trip falls on the 4/25 Liberation Day holiday weekend so I am running into 3-night minimums. While the bulk of the Italy 2020 book is excellent, I find the Venice hotel section a bit of a muddled mess as the opening paragraph mentions an area that was perhaps left out.

Ca’ Rezzonico is a good suggestion. While I have never stayed there, I know the area very well. The nearest campo, Campo San Barnaba, has a couple of bars that are good, and Campo Margherita has many places to eat.

One big plus - no bridges to cross from the Ca’ Rezzonico vaporetto stop.

I inquired to Casa Rezzonico earlier this year for a trip in August 2020 and the people I worked with in 2017 said they are no longer involved in the operation. I was writing because I could not find ANY availability throughout the entire year. Thus I cannot vouch for the place any longer as I don't know who or how it will be operated.

For the original poster, Shannon, I would also recommend Pensione Accademia, where I stayed the first time I visited Venice. It's JUST off the grand canal, and has canal view rooms.
It would be my place to go in Venice if price were no concern (although it typically would fit your stated budget).

It's a former embassy, before that it was a private residence.

I found it wonderful and everything I ever envisioned as a European lodging.
