venice hotels- inexpensive

Looking for inexpensive (less than $100 USD a night), well-located hotel or B & B for December. The perfect room would be clean for sure, not too small, not noisy at night, might have a view, and definitely has an excellent breakfast buffet included. Does not have to be in San Marco, but does need to be in walking distance. We walk 10-15 miules a day. Thank you!

Chris:
Try Ai Tagliapietra B&B http://www.aitagliapietra.com. Winter rate should be euro 75 per night, so depending on exchange rate in Dec., pretty close to your budget. Lorenzo puts on a breakfast of brioche, cereal, yogurt, juice and coffee. It is 5 minutes from Piazza San Marco. No view, though, but everyone we've sent there has loved it. Laurel

If you walk 10-15 miles a day, then anyplace in Venice is within walking distance of San Marco. Seriously. It's a very compact city. It's the "excellent breakfast buffet" that could prove to be a bit of a challenge. Italian b'fast buffets tend to be very carb-heavy (cereals, pastries), with not much protein. Good luck.

Based on a recommendation posted by Laurel, we stayed at Ai Tagliapietra for a few days in June and would definitely stay there again. The location is perfect, and Lorenzo is the perfect host. He also meets you when you get off the water ferry and walks with you right to the B&B. It was extremely clean. Quiet at night. Close to great restaurants and sights. It was one of our favorite places during our month-long stay in Italy. It's definitely worth checking out on the website Laurel posted above. If you have more questions about it, you can send me a PM.

The Hotel Santa Lucia is another option. It has bigger rooms than most and is very clean. It's in a quiet neighborhood near the train station. The New York Times includes it in recommendations for budget travel to Venice.

Campiello S. Giustina, Alloggi Barbarina, Locanada Ca'Zose meet your criteria but double check their availability in December. Would you consider your own apartment? I loved staying here: dreamofvenice.com East end of the island. Very quiet, comfortable. No breakfast buffet though.

Check out Santa Margherita Guesthouse in Dorsoduro. It's in your price range and has good reviews. I don't think there's a "view" or "excellent breakfast buffet" at any hotel for $100/night.
