As I continue my reading on Venice I have just started looking at Rick Steves
hotels and trip advisor as well. The four of us are used to 4+ hotels when we travel South during the winter but I see that I cannot afford them in Venice I checked out the Hilton and it was too pricey for me. I would like my teenage sons to see the old charm in some of the old venetion buildings so I am looking at many hotel websites and its very time consuming. I am willing to pay upto $250 a night for 3 nights. Any names of hotels or appartments that would make my picky family happy would be greatly appreciated.
Check with tripadvisor. They usually give good advice. Anything in Venice will be in old buildings. There isn't much new unless you go to Mestre.
150 Euro a night for a quadruple room is probably sufficient.
We have used VRBO many times in many cities. Our favorite in Venice would not be big enough for you, but there are many options at VRBO. Just stay IN VENICE not in Mestre or the Lido. Everything is close and convenient if you stay in Venice proper. I've also looked at Views on Venice several times for options. Might work for you and your budget.
Again, I recommend this apartment close to Piazza San Marco. We have stayed here for three months, my family stayed here for a few days, and some posters here have stayed here as well and like it. It's within your budget, a two bedroom/two bath apartment on a canal where you will see gondole glide by. The bed in the bedroom by the canal can be turned into two twin beds. Also the owners speak English.
Oh, I envy you to be going. We had our three sons (two teenager) and their most favorite place (EVER) is Locanda Orseolo, a B&B in an old building, right on a canal. With a marvelous breakfast and great - helpful - English speaking staff. Truly a gem. The boys could sit for hours in the small parlor overlooking the canal and seeing life in a city totally different from the Chicago suburbs. If you are by chance landing in Venice, consider a water taxi from the airport (you can book in advance, but there seemed to be a lot of them as you exit the airport, head to the water outside the terminal. It's a very short walk.)Our boys had a blast and it was a great way to perk them up after a really long overnight from O'Hare. We sent our friends back last summer (four kids - of them teens) and got raves. Have fun! http://www.locandaorseolo.com
Check out the Antiche Figure on the Grand Canal. Charming old building, comfortable rooms, and excellent staff. Stayed there with my sons in Dec. It will be in your budget.
Another popular place with RS readers is Pensione Guerrato. We've stayed there twice and loved it. They have some rooms with four beds. I can't recommend them highly enough. Great location and very helpful staff.
Hello Mina Venice is an expensive city, to pay a good price in Venice you need to stay during week days, the week end is more expensive
There many hotels and very good BB, your budget is not bad, I can give you some names of hotels if you give me any idea of the possible dates. You need to consider also a boat from the train station or airport to the hotel since there are many bridges and is too far to walk to the area of St. Marks' square from the train station area or Piazzale Roma (in case you go by car) or airport I will be happy to give you some suggestion Viviana Rome- Italy
