We are a party of three traveling from Vienna to Venice by train for 2-3 days. We have 2 questions: Should we take the night train from Vienna? Need hotel recommendations, we don't want to spend more than $200 per night? Thanks for your help.
We have stayed at the Hotel Abazzia in the Sestiere (district or neighborhood) Canneregio near Stazione Santa Lucia (Venice's main train station) twice in the last few years. It is located on a quiet calle (alley) a few minutes walk for the station and ferrovia (railroad) vaporetto stop. The property is a former Carmelite Monastery now converted into a nice hotel and the employees are terrific, especially Matteo and Mirko. Highly recommended. Buon viaggio,
Hotel Abbazia is a three star hotel well out of your price range if you're going in peak season. When do you plan to be there?
Thanks for the information. We plan to be there in early September.
That's peak season in Venice. The historic regatta also happens then. Do you have the Rick Steves Italy book? Have you looked at his section on Venice lodging?
