Venice hotels

I'm looking for a accommodations in Venice. I'd really like something with a canal view, but I don't want to pay $400 and up for the view. Maybe I'm being unrealistic. Casa Rezzonico sounds ideal, but I'm afraid it may be too off the beaten path..."far from the maddening crowds" was its description in the guidebook. We've never been to Venice before and doubt we'll be again. BTW: Pensione Guerrato isn't available for our dates. If you've stayed at Casa Ressonico, let me know what you think. If you have other recommendations, please, share them.

You are 5 min. walk (less than 1/4 of a mile) from the Grand Canal, where you can take a vaporetto to anywhere. If you don't mind walking a little more, the Accademia is 10 min. from your hotel. Both San Marco and Rialto are 20 min walk from your hotel. Venice isn't that big, no matter where you stay. Casa Rezzonico is pretty well located overall.

We stayed at Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo and loved it. Not a canal view but you are surrounded by canals!

We stayed at Casa Rezzonico this past fall and loved it !! It's in the Dorsoduro just down the small canal from Campo St. Barnaba . Matteo was a charming host and he serves breakfast in a lovely garden behind the building . Campo St. Barnaba is the spot where Katharine Hepburn falls in the canal in the 1955 film " Summertime " . The location is , as Roberto says , quite convenient and very charming , don't hesitate about it , we would ( will ) go back in a heartbeat . Don't be too sure about never returning to Venice ,it has an odd way of changing peoples minds once you have been there !! If you haven't seen " Summertime " do watch it before you go . Although it was made over fifty years ago ,Venice has not changed and the film will whet your appetite to see it . Also try to day trip out into the lagoon to see some of the islands , particularly Burano " The island where the rainbow fell "

We stayed at the Hotel Cavalletto. It is just off San Marco square. Great location. Room was good sized with a ton of closet space. I loved the Venetian glass chandelier in our room!

Casa Rezzonico does sound wonderful, but we just returned from 3 nights in Venice and stayed at Ca'Bonvicini - fabulous ! The location was simple to get to - just off the Rialto market area. We paid 202 euros a night and had a wonderful balcony over this QUIET canal. I did not want to be on a busy "boat" canal - We kept our windows open all night ! And, you DO want to be away from the maddening crowds ! And you will return if you stay away from the crowds ! Just walk the opposite direction of people !

We just stayed at Casa Rezzonico last month and we loved it. The canal that it is on is one of the small canals and there is very little foot traffic in front of this B&B. The main pedestrian traffic flow gets diverted by a bridge (the Ponte dei Pugni) next to Campo San Barnaba' - a good ways down the canal. But that's a good thing. You still have easy access to Campo Santa Margherita (a very active hub, even in the evening) and there's a vaporetto landing just a few minutes away - the Ca' Rezzonico stop. The one thing to be aware of, though, is the bells from the nearby Chiesa dei Carmini. I found them charming, but they might bug some people. See my review (MichaelSeattle2012) on TripAdvisor here: Casa Rezzonico I even posted a few photos.

I stayed at Casa Rezzonico a few years ago and was very happy with the location. The price is reasonable, the room was lovely (had a nice view). The backyard courtyard was nice for breakfast in the morning. Since Venice isn't a large city, everything is pretty much walkable. Have fun!!

Debbie, we stayed at the Hotel Kette San Marco, 2053 just a few minutes walk to St. Mark's Square. Our room had a wonderful view of a canal with beautiful music drifting up from the gondolas! It was otherwise very quiet. We were in the heart of things, but felt away from the crowds.

Thanks for the recommendation. It looks beautiful, but it's booked for my dates. I'm going with Casa Ressonico, and from the comments I've read, I think we'll be happy with this choice.
