Venice hotels

What part of Venice would you recommend staying in with a 7 year old. We will be there the last part of June. We will be taking the train up from Rome and spending 3 nights in Venice before we fly up to Munich.
Also, are there any great beaches we can go to?

Thank you,

Cindy

I particularly liked the Dorsoduro area of Venice, but the city is not large, and really it's all good. If you want some beach time, you could take the vaparetto to the Lido di Venezia.

We're staying at Pensione Guerrato in San Polo during our visit next month. It's one of few that offers rooms for more than double occupancy. (We have 7-year-old twins and were able to book a quad room; quite rare.) Ranked high by RS. His tour groups stay there. I liked the accommodations, the price, and that it's in a quiet area. It looks to be well located with regard to all other parts of Venice, but like the other poster said, the city isn't huge.

We enjoyed our stay at Pensions guerrato & Had a large quad for our family of 4. Location is just a few steps from the Rialto mkt. They also have several apts available located in a different bldg. On two occasions we stayed in Hotel Campiello's apts not far from San Marco and they were lovely. Also have Stayed at Hotel Rialto on the Grand Canal near the bridge but not worth the $. On our last trip here in 2013 we rented a lovely apt through trulyvenice.com not far from San Marco.

We stayed in Pensione Guerrato in 2013 and 2015. Every close to the Rialto, a Vaporetto stop its side of the canal, it will not disappoint. regards

Pensione Guerrato is a great little family hotel located in a building from the early 1200s. The people are nice, the inclusive breakfast is quite good and the air-conditioning works very well. Just be aware there is no elevator and you'll have to walk up and down flights of stairs everytime you come and go...even with luggage.

We stayed at Pensione Guerrato in 2010 and I will be returning there in May. It's next to the Fish market with strange looking creatures I think any kid would like to look at. The location is very convenient to other things and the vaparetto stop is nearby.
