First time to Venice in late October, which would be better? Thanks for your input!

They both look like very nice hotels. I assume you have perused the Trip Advisor reviews. They are universally good. Like a lot of people, once you have found a place you like, it tends to be your place in Venice for ever.

I agree - Venice is a place where people and hotels get attached to each other. That said, after several attempts using Rick's suggestions I came across hotel ala. Check it out - for 6 years now I spend at least a week there. Same room every time. Ideal location, excellent breakfast and very very nice staff.

Le Boulevard on Lido De Venice is about a block from the water taxi station. A very full breakfast and staff who are very helpful. Got an awesome rate on hotels.com We got a 72 hr vaperetto pass and had an inexpensive trip to Venice. Enjoy! Susan from NM

I stayed at a place called the Palazzo Paruta. Its in the San Marco district near the Sant agnelo stop. I thought it was fantastic. The staff was friendly and helpful. They served a great breakfast every morning, and had afternoon tea. Its located at a quiet piazza, but still in good walking distance of improtant sites. You dont necessarily need to be right on St Marks (unless you want to be). I like to be away from the crowds a bit. Venice is a very walkable city no matter where you stay. Also, the rooms are not going to be that big unless you pay big. But who cares how big it is, you should be outside in Venice.
