My husband and I just returned from a month in Italy and we spent a week in Venice. We stayed at the Campiello and really loved it.Although it is expensive, it is well worth it.Several reasons for this. We came from the airport, got off the boat at San Zacarria and the side street Calle de vin is right there, walk off the boat dock, down the street a few yards , and you are at the hotel. Vert quiet, yet close to everything. Also, it is air-conditioned. The buffet breakfast is wonderful, and they have a computer for guests to use to check email, etc. The rooms are not huge, but the bathrooms are very nice, also. The staff is very helpful, and they give a " Rick Steves discount" if you tell them when you book and pay in cash. There is no discount for credit card use, but they do take credit cards. Book well in advance because it is filled most nights.

Try the cross-pollinate website. It is run by an american couple living in rome. they have B&B's in rome, florence and venice. It's a great website and the B&B's that they have are very nice and reasonable. More reasonable then a hotel. Just type in cross-pollinate and the website will pop up. Use it, its great!!
