Venice hotels

Hi fellow travelers,
I'm looking for a centrally located hotel in Venice that has an elevator (we have bad knees) and a lounge/patio with a nice view for soaking up atmosphere. Hoping for something of moderate price but maybe that's asking too much, lol. Thanks for any/all suggestions.

Suggest you look at booking.com and use their filters to get the room you want. Elevators, A/C, a terrace, specific sestiere (location), star rating, and price point are just some of the filters available.

We loved staying at Hotel Agli Alboretti in the Dorsoduro district of Venice. They have an elevator, a small rooftop lounge, very nice included breakfast and is in an excellent location in Dorsoduro, which is much quieter than the San Marco area. Our hotel is a one-minute walk from the Accademia vaporetto stop and Accademia bridge. About a 20-minute walk to St. Mark's Basilica. About 5 minutes from the Zattere where we loved having drinks and cicchettis overlooking the Guidecca Canal.

In nice weather you can have breakfast on their outdoor patio.

A warning: Some hotels have an elevator, but only from the lobby to the rooms - and the lobby is on the first (second for US people) floor with only stairs from street level. Be sure to check.

On my last visit, I opted for a B&B near San Marco. It had an elevator, but only from the first floor. You had to walk up a flight of stairs from the ground floor (note that in Europe, first floor always means one flight up from street level). My host explained that it was because of the possibility of flooding that the elevator could only be installed from the first floor. On all my previous visits I stayed in the Dorsoduro, which I loved, but none had an elevator. Both the San Marco area and the Dorsoduro are very prone to flooding. I was there once during an acqua alta event. Very interesting, but definitely lots of water.

In September, we stayed 5 nights at the Hotel Splendid. It’s a great location in between San Marco and Rialto. They have an elevator and a great rooftop terrace and bar with a beautiful view. The hotel staff was wonderful and their breakfast buffet was fantastic. I highly recommend it.
