Sad tale - I have obviously left it too late to book a hotel room in Venice city. There are only a handful of places of dubious quality left.
I had earlier booked an San Marco area hotel room at an affordable price and was obliged to change my dates. That leaves Mestre and Lido districts in my price range for 3 nights in mid May. I need to be made aware of travel times between the Lido and San Marco Plaza and what routes would I need to take. The hotel in Lido has a shuttle, is it wise to depend on it to travel to the main plaza? Thanks for any help, Carol
carol,
Where are you getting your hotel information? If you haven't checked the RS Italy guidebook, you will get some good suggestions there. What type of hotel are you looking for and in what price range?
Don't know your specific dates, but booking.com shows quite a few available sites in mid-May including affordable Hotel Florida where we have stayed twice (very close to train station)
Recommend [enter link description here][1] [1]: http://www.villarosahotel.com/eng/hotel.html. We have stayed here on a couple of occasions. I see they have availability for May.
I also see many good listings on booking.com. You can filter by price, location, and dozens of other amenities.
Check Hotel le Isole......FABULOUS location, quiet, nice rooms (baths are small), wonderful staff, included breakfast served in quiet courtyard, wonderful TripAdvisor ratings. We would stay there again in a heartbeat...request the room with the window and also a small French type balcony looking over the quiet canal.
But, it could be booked...worth checking. Less than 5 minute walk to San Marcos and the waterfront.
Yes definitely Hotel Le Isole. Excellent location, quiet
The hotel in Lido has a shuttle, is it wise to depend on it to travel to the main plaza?
Not unless it has some kind of amphibious vehicle. The shuttle will probably drop you at the Santa Maria Elisabetta dock where there is frequent vaporetto service to San Marco. Takes about 20 minutes if memory serves.
But I think you can find a hotel on the island. There are hundreds, and San Marco is not the end-all be-all of Venice.
Did you try thee Hotel Becher? Average rate of $150 per night - great family run boutique hotel 10 minute walk to San Marco and with a small porch on a canal that is a great spot for afternoon wine and cheese while watching the gondolas glide by
Loved this place, short walk to everything. Casanova apparently lived here, so they say ;)
Stayed here last year for less than 100 Euro at the end of April.
