Venice hotel recommendations

Thanks to this forum, I was able to pick and book a hotel in Florence. I was hoping some of you could help me out on finding a hotel in Venice. I think I would love something on the canal and/or with canal views. Something with character. Again, there are so many options it is overwhelming. My budget for this hotel is between $200.00-$300.00 per night.

Thanks so much

We like Casa Rezzonico B&B in Dorsoduro. Some of the rooms face onto one of the many small canals that are found throughout Venice. Charming garden for the b'fast as well.

Check out Pensione Guerrato in the Rialto Bridge area. It's far enough away from the big mobs of people yet easy to get anywhere from there. We've stayed there a number of times and have always been pleased. It's not really on a canal, but some rooms may have a canal view. We've just never stayed in one.

This will be year 10 for me staying at Hotel Ala. It's right at the Giglio vaporetto stop and is an easy walk to the Accademia and San Marco. The hotel has an amazing breakfast. Ask for a room overlooking the canal - you'll have plenty of singing gondoliers. I tried several of Rick's recommendations and they were all very nice but this place has become home - in fact when I walk in I'm always greeted by name and welcomed home. Maybe one year I just won't leave!

Within your budget we stayed at the Hotel Palazzo Vitturi
It has character in spades.
Not on a canal but not far from one and has some very nice private balcony rooms overlooking the piazza/square it sits in.

The private balcony rooms I believe are only bookable on their website and have fresco ceilings and are huge rooms with large balconies.

MReynolds,

Thank you so much for posting the Palazzo Vitturi, lovely. I had been mulling the thought of staying in Padua this time, but you just reminded me why I stayed in Venice for 5 days the last time. Would love to find something like this nearer the Frari Church or Dorsoduro area.

Nigel,
No I haven’t. Looking so far at two or three close to the Academia Gallery and Guggenheim off a small canal and a Piazza. 200-300 $ a night next Oct. I don’t think any had the painted ceilings and some had smallish rooms.
I will look at this and thanks.

At the recommendation of our RS travel consultant we have booked an independent 3 nights in mid-March at Casa Rezzonico in the Dorsodoro area. The proprietors have been wonderful to work with. We have a double room, with breakfast for 97 Euros per night, and a single room, with breakfast for 77 Euros per night.

We have stayed at Ca Dogaressa on 2 different trips. It is a small hotel with 2 Jr. Suites and some double rooms. Jr. Suites had a king size bed and a sofa sleeper, mini fridge. We have only stayed in the Jr. Suites so that we could have a view of the Cannareggio Canal. Very easy walking from the train station. It's quiet and a very large room for Europe. Very nice bathroom, nice breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff. There is no elevator but it wasn't a problem for us. I booked directly with the hotel and received responses quickly. I did specify that I wanted a canal view and they were very helpful.
Give them a look.

Have a great trip!

Mimi
