Venice Hotel Recommendation

After staying in Venice Mestre on two separate trips, I would really like to enjoy the city at night and not have to rush back to the buses for the last route of the night. I know several of you have your favorite hotels, and, once again, can you tell me about them. We'll be there in October. Thanks.

Love Locanda al Leon, just behind Piazza San Marco: simple, Venetian decor, clean, so comfortable, and affordable--with a decent breakfast, but no real frills or amenities. We've just felt so comfortable there...and a great location at just about 125 Euros.

You'll want to make your reservations soon. A big favorite on this board is Pensione Guerrato. We've stayed there twice and recommend them highly.

Stayed in July at Hotel Mercurio, as part of a RS tour. Very nice hotel and staff and very close to St Marks.

When we stay overnight there, we usually stay at the Hotel Allogi alla Scala. It's in the courtyard of the Contarini di Bovolo which is one of the most beautiful sights in Venice and a double costs about 90 euro, cheaper than most other places. Pretty close to both San Marco and Rialto.

Loved La Calcina in the Dorsaduro. Great location, great breakfast, and reasonable prices. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Thanks to all of you for your quick replies. All of the hotels look great. I am sure several are available for our dates. It'll be great to stay on the island and not have to hurry back for the last vaporetto or last bus!
