Hi, my husband and I will be in Venice in October and we are having a hard time finding a reasonably priced hotel. Do you guys have any recomendations? Thanks!
There will be some recommendations from travelers coming your way, but I suggest looking into monasterystays.com. There are several monasteries/guest houses in Venice, last summer I paid about 70 euro for a single with bath and breakfast. Rooms are simple (no tv or fridge, usually) and have a curfew (usually 11pm or later), but most are in buildings that are on a quiet street, or have a garden, or thick walls to isolate you from noise. Venice is not a relaxing city during the day, so having a little oasis at the end of the day makes a nice change of pace. There are also apartments that can be rented if you are staying for several days.
I like staying in the Dorsoduro area - quieter, more residential, yet conveniently located, and usually somewhat less expensive lodgings. That being said, the hotel I loved 3 years ago has raised it's prices by about 50%, so no bargain there any more.
http://www.bbvenezia.com/ Excellent little place on the tip of the island in St Elena. We love this area.
Venice is more expensive than most cities in Italy, but it's worth it. We love Pensione Guerrato. (We've stayed there twice and it's a perennial favorite on this board.) That said, you have waited so long to make these reservations that you might have a real problem. You can always try booking.com and venere.com. They will show you only those places that have availability for your dates. Happy travels.
Thank you for your advice. We found a hotel from the list of your recommendations. I apprecite your help.
We always stay at Hotel Abbazia near the Santa Lucia train station in Venice. It is a former Carmelite Monastery located on a quiet calle (alley). it would be more helpful if you would define "reasonable" in terms of dollars or euro. Reasonable means different things to different people. Buon viaggio,
You might try B&B 3C. Their web site is: http://www.venice3c.com/ We were scheduled to stay there in August but had to cancel our trip at the last minute. Their rates were very reasonable (€135 euros/night) & the location is very close to St. Mark's Square. The reviews on Trip Advisor are really good. We were really looking forward to staying there.
