Venice Hotel - Pensione Guerrato or Hotel Riva

I have seen some positive comments on Pensione Guerrato on this site, but also am interested in Hotel Riva. Hotel Riva seems to be better located for some of the sights near San Marco. Has anyone stayed at both? Which would you recommend?

Venice is very compact, and Guerrato was an ideal location for us the two times we've been to Venice. Per Google maps, it's 0.38 miles between Guerrato and San Marco as the crow flies. I walk farther than that to my bus stop every morning in Seattle. My personal preference is to avoid staying near San Marco precisely because it is so busy there. And I don't know about Hotel Riva, but the people at Guerrato are amazingly friendly and helpful.

I also suggest Guerrato. The location near the Rialto is handy and watching the setup of the market each morning was great.Everything arrives by boat.Nice rooms and helpful friendly service. As far as being close to St.Marks the Rialto is only a short(busy)walk away

Ditto to what Michael and Jack said.
