I can't decide which hotel for 1 romantic evening, preferably overlooking Grand Canal, budget it $500 max
Anyone know Locanda Orseolo or Palazzo Bembo, or Foscari Palace?
These were recommended by friends but we are hoping for kingsize bed (not 2 pushed together) and "Venetian" decorations in historic building if possible for the ambiance
We'll be there beginning of November
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The Touring club of Italy has a book on Bed and Breakfasts in Italy. Their website is www.touringclub.it the bed and breakfast website is www.bbitalia.it . You plan to go in November so you may be able to negotiate the rate. That is low season and the B & B managers may be competing for business by then.

Back in 1981, on a student's budget, I stayed at Locanda Sturion, which is right on the Grand Canal, very close to the Rialto Bridge. At the time, it was an amazing bargain, even on our budget. When we were investigating places to stay when we go to Venice this July, I was surprised by how upscale this place is. So, you might want to check it out.
We decided to stay at Ca' Angeli, also right on the Grand Canal, somewhat close to the Rialto Bridge. It's much less expensive, but it has some very nice suites that might suit you.

This hotel doesn't overlook the Grand Canal proper - you get a small view of it if you have a room at the front of the hotel. But this is a wonderful old hotel with a front courtyard and a central garden. The hotel is a lovely building with antiques in the common areas. I really enjoyed my stay.
