Venice hotel close to center

Hi We will be in Venice for 2 nights. Any recommendations for a hotel between 150 -225 Euros close to center. Close to one of the small canals would be nice. Thanks for your help

I always recommend Hotel Ala - it's right at the Giglio vaporetto stop, midway between San Marco and the Ponte Accademia . Ask for a room overlooking the canal - lots of gondolas and even some good singers!

We've been to Venice once in 2014 and stayed at Hotel Ala- we thought it perfect.

We are going back to Venice next month- staying at Hotel Ala.
Great location, ease of access, nice bkft, comfy rooms, gondoliers outside your window.

We stayed at the Hotel Ala many years ago. Be sure to get a room on the canal. The “street” side rooms are noisy.

quite close to many things including La Fenice and with an excellent vaporetto connection - reasonably priced for Venice - is the Hotel Ala.

I enjoyed their breakfasts, and as we get a room on a side canal there is nice gondola sounds.

How many is "we"?

The Ala is reasonably large - they may be able to help. Your group will let out many smaller places.

When is the trip - 2020?

I would look on Booking.com and zoom in on the area you are after. In the search are you can say how many rooms you are looking for.

you say you looked at Hotel Ali and it is adults only. I've never heard of the hotel Ali. That is not the one we mentioned which is Hotel Ala, which is a Best Western related hotel in the centre. I have never heard of them being adults only.

In fact I just went to their webpage and dummy booked a 4 person room for 3 people and an 8 year old. They also say they can on request create a 5 person room.

I posted the link to Hotel ALA above
They have quite a few “family rooms” so they must allow children?

I have a reservation for the Hotel Ala for July for 3 of us including my 14yo daughter. After reading the adult only comment above I checked my reservation and it looks like I only booked for 2 adults, so I emailed the hotel to correct...I will let you know how I make out.

I also did a mock booking and could book the triple room for us, putting in 1 child 14yo, but looks like that would be considered 3 adults.

I also noticed one spot of the website "couples only" and other say couples recommended, which I don't think was on there back in December when I booked it.

I read a few reviews a trip adviser that mentions small children, so who knows!

Just tried a mock booking for 2 adults/2 children. There is nowhere to indicate age of child- so I'd say they allow children of all ages.
Don't see anything at all on website to the contrary.

Hotel Ala is pretty much a 'everyone is welcome' kind of place. I've stayed there either alone or with my partner for the past 10 or 11 years. I've seen people of all ages and 'whatevers'. I would suggest, when making reservations, make a note of the age of any children. It shouldn't be more difficult than that.

The staff at Hotel Ala are wonderful and personable. They are also hard working, especially in the excellent breakfast room! And yet, each year I'm greeted by name and they always have time to be social. One year I received a phone call at home in the US shortly after making my return reservation - sorry I wasn't home to answer but the message left was 'saw you return to Venice, we will be happy to see you again.'

BTW, Hotel Ala is no longer part of the Best Western chain.

Hotel Ala was our first hotel on our first visit to Italy. As I said- we thought it was perfect. Loved everything about the place and decided when we go back- that is where we will stay- so that is what we are doing next month.
We even enjoyed the vodka bar!

Also wanted to add that when we were checking out back in 2014 a RS Your Way tour was checking in, so I figured then we had chose well.

check out the Hotel Le Isole. We stayed there two Octobers ago, and LOVED it. Location was incredible....so convenient, yet quiet. We had a room with a very small French balcony in one direction and full windows (that opened) on the other....fun to watch the comings/goings on the small little canal.

Included a FULL breakfast (eggs and meat if desired), and afternoon light tea. Beer/wine provided complimentary with juices in room fridge. After a long day of touring and some jet lag, we brought back to-go food and enjoyed a light dinner on the quiet patio courtyard (where breakfast seating is also available, as well an inside.

The bathroom was smaller than I would want for an extended stay, but location and kindness of staff and all the other benefits above would make me choose the same hotel if we ever return to Venice.

Enjoy your time in Venice....is is oh so magical. And, for that many rooms, maybe they would offer a little extra benefit for your group....worth asking IF (operative word) they have enough rooms available for when you plan to travel.

That's great LauraM. The sort of service that I would expect at the Ala.

I've seen a question asking if the Ala is central enough to major sights. Yes, it is, in my opinion. Very convenient to the vaporetto which takes you everywhere, very close to La Fenice, very close to S Moise and S Marco, convenient for Rialto, and to the Accademia and therefor the Guggenheim and S Salute. A bit far for a quick stroll to Frari and the nearby bakery Tonolo but you can easily get there by vaporetto.

It is true that nowhere in Venice is really very far from anywhere else - the city is very compact - but when you add bridges with steps and gorgeous views every which way you turn to slow you down having the boats available to take a bit of the strain is very pleasant.

A few springs ago we stayed at the Hotel Colombian for a night. https://www.hotelcolombina.com/ . Tucked back in behind Piazza San Marco, it is just off the beaten path but remains within arms reach of all the tourist sites. Boutique style and it sits alongside a small canal.

My family of four (two young kids) stayed at Hotel Mercurio. I believe it's mentioned in the RS guidebook and we thought it was great. Close to everything we wanted to see. Price was right, breakfast was decent.

Good luck!
