Venice Hotel Advice -- Cruise Ends in Venice

All,

My fiancee and I will be on our honeymoon cruise in October and it ends in Venice. I have a couple of questions:

The hotel the Cruise Line uses is Hotel Bauer Venice and includes all of the transfers from the Ship to the Hotel and from the Hotel to the Airport. It also comes with a very hefty price tag of almost $900 USD/night.

I think we can do much better than that but am concerned about organizing the Transfer of the Luggage and us from the boat to the hotel and from hotel to the airport. While I love my fiancee she is not a light packer and expect to have to deal with 3 fairly large suitcases between us.

Can Transfers be easily arranged? We simply can't be hoofing all that luggage through Venice!

Thanks

joel

Well, you got down on your knees and begged her to marry you...now it's time to get back down on your knees and beg her to pack less. (j/k)

We are preparing to cruise again this summer.
In light of the airline baggage restrictions, we plan to take one carry-on size and one regular bag each.
It's do-able...make clothing serve double duty and wash stuff out in the sink.

Try this website for transportation to the airport, I think it works for hotel transfers also:

www.atvo.it

Also, for hotel bookings checkout:

www.travelocity.com

www.expedia.com

www.hotels.com

www.cheaptickets.com

$900 USD per night is a bit stiff.

And Congratulations for your upcoming marriage!

Jill, is very correct. The airlines are going to sock it to you if they can on extra bags. Weight will also possible be an issue. Your wonderful new wife will have to pack less.

That being said, there are a few nice hotels within a reasonable walking distance of the cruise terminals. CLICK HERE to see a few. You might also look into the Palazzo Odoni which is also near by (http://www.palazzoodoni.it/eng/index.html). Note that some places may want a minimum 2-night stay.

Finally, if you stay in a hotel near the Piazzale Roma (next to the cruise terminals), you are very near two bus systems that have frequent bus runs to the airport (ACTV and ATVO) . True, you have to walk about 10 minutes or so with your luggage but it's a whole lot better than $900. Bus fare will not exceed 6Euro each.

Dear Joel, first congratulations on your upcoming nuptuals. Surely you can do better than what the cruise line offers.

I can recommend one option for you. You can make your way via vaporetto to Zaterre stop (it's not too difficult to take luggage aboard = 6.5 Euros per person I believe) in the Dorsoduro area. Just a few hundred feet or so (to the right) is Pensione La Calcina. A wonderful find in a quiet area of Venice. Providing you are catching a flight that leaves late morning, you can catch the "red allilaguna line" close to the hotel to a dock near the airport (12 Euros per person). It's an 8 minute walk to the airport after that.

Merely a consideration. Ciao

All,

Well I have booked a room for 2 nights in Locando Orseolo, http://www.locandaorseolo.com/en/location.htm, which was highly rated. It looks to be close to Saint Marks Square.

Now that is booked, any help with how to transfer the luggage from the Grand Princess when she docks to the Hotel, and from the Hotel to the airport (we have a 6:50AM flight to Rome), will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Joel
