Any suggestions Acca (D-135E) (San Polo area) or Messner D-115 E) annex across the canal from Piazza San Marco?
We stayed one night at the Hotel Messner annex this past June 1. It's not in the main hotel but instead is about 150 feet down a nice back canal in another buidling. Our room was really small but clean. The shower was about the same size as a phone booth (really) but adequate. No elevator. Interestingly, with the Venetians placing their hotel ratings in plaques on the building, the Hotel Messner itself is a 2-star - the annex is a 1-star. Still, it wasn't bad and our rate was 110E a day. Breakfast was very good and the people were very nice. Easy walking distance to the Accadamia and the Peggy Guggenheim museum - both recommended. Nice out-of-the-way shops along the way as well. Easy to get to from the Salute stop. A short walk will get you to the Giudecca canal where there are some very nice restaurants.
