Both the Pesnione Le Calcina and the Pensione Guerrato have been listed on RS best in Vencie. Which one is better?
There is no "better" in this case; it is a matter of which suits your taste, style, and budget (and which has rooms available when you need them). You will probably get an equal number of votes for each. We loved La Calcina but can't compare them as we have not stayed at Guerrato. Some people do not like La Calcina's reservation deposit policy, but it was fine with us.
Mary, whatever you do decide, I would urge you to book it early. I couldn't get a room with ensuite bath at Pensione Guerrato with 5 months advance notice. A testament to its popularity, courtesy of Rick Steves I am sure.
Either one and you'll love it. Their availability may answer the question for you. Happy travels. Venice is great.
Definitely book asap. I was looking at Venice hotel rooms yesterday and in a matter of hours one hotel I was looking at (booking.com) went from having around 15 double rooms to being fully booked.
We also liked La Calcina-stayed there twice and both times we had the suite around the corner from the main building. Loved the quiet location and there is a bubbling fountain just outside and that was the only sound we heard during the night. Breakfast there is very good and there is a small roof top terrace.
Mary we have stayed at the Pen. Gue. It was fine. Really close to the Rialto Bridge.
The market is below and great to grab some fruit in the morning. There is a continental breakfast which was just enough to start the day.
