Can anyone recommend a clean hotel with a decent sized room and bath near St. Mark's Sq. or Rialto Bridge. Thanks.

I stayed in Pensione Guerrato, recommended in Rick's Italy guidebook. They give a Rick discount, and it's a little less if you pay in cash. My specific room was small with detached bathroom, but I booked late.
It was a very nice place to stay, next to the Rialto Market (one stop away from Rialto Bridge), decorated with antiques and Murano glass chandeliers. It's about a 2 minute walk from the vapporetto stop, they let you keep your luggage there on checkout day if you want to tour around some more, they have a nice breakfast in a breakfast room, and are staffed by pleasant people. No elevator, tho.

Yep, Pensione Guerrato. We've stayed there twice. Hard to beat for location, nice rooms and helpful staff. http://www.pensioneguerrato.it/ If you stay there, say hi to Roberto (tall and thin) and Piero (shaved head). They're the brothers-in-law who run the place.
