Venice Hotel

First time going. Looking for some recommendations for hotels with AC located near San Marco. Also with a view option from the room if possible.

We stayed at Hotel Ala end of April, 2024. Excellent hotel, good location on a small square near San Marco but not right in the tourist crowd, and a very generous buffet breakfast. It is maybe a 500 foot walk to the Grand Canal. From the hotel we also walked across the Academia Bridge into the Dorsodouro district and north towards the Rialto but heading more east into the Cannaregio district. Those two neighborhoods are not as crowded as the San Marco area. Venice is REALLY buggy - mosquitoes and tiny flies love those shallow side canals - take good personal bug repellent with you - it can be hard to find when you travel! We loved Venice despite the bug bites and hope to return soon.

Al Ponte Antico Hotel.
It's near the Rialto Bridge. You can read reviews and see photos on TripAdvisor, but book direct with hotel. They also have a private dock, so you could even take a Private Water Taxi from the airport and be dropped off at the hotel -- but it's also an easy walk from the Rialto Bridge stop. It is a palace from the 1500s, so only 12 rooms. Amazing breakfast.

Stay away from San Marco and have the non-crowd experience. We stay in Cannaregio, on the quiet back canals, where one can take sunset pix without anyone spoiling the frame. We love the Hotel Ai Mori D'Oriente. Book directly for the best price, but read reviews and do your research on booking.com.
Enjoy!

We liked Hotel Le Isole. Wonderful boutique hotel with an excellent breakfast and close to San Marco and a vaporetto stop.

Another vote for Hotel Ala. They changed groups a few times since I started staying there in the early 2000s. Prices went up every time but service didn't and the breakfast buffet certainly didn't suffer. It's also right at the Giglio vaporetto stop. Ask for a room overlooking the canal - you'll get seranaded by gondoliers.
