We will be taking a Mediterranean cruise that departs from Vemice. We are flying in a day early so we are looking for a hotel near the cruise port. We can take the vaporetto to get anywhere else in Venice, and we have been to Venice before so we don't feel we need to stay close to the attractions. We are just looking for a good place convenient for the cruise. Any suggestions?

Less than 400 dollars American...200-300 would be awesome!

That would be under €350. With €175 to €265 in the awesome category for folks suggesting in the local currency.
Your bottom end will be very difficult most of the year, especially for a one night. The top end should work.
You haven't given a date, or even day or the week or month, so difficult to answer. Venice prices are some of the most fluid I have seen anywhere. Almost all places charge what they believe they can get, and won't post prices except as a "From...". If there is any reason for them to rise they will.

Not worried about the cost right now...just looking for suggestions of a hotel convenient to cruise terminal without having to drag luggage over a multitude of bridges in September.
