Venice Honeymoon Restaurant

Hi All,

Cruised the forum and while there's a lot of content on Venice restaurants, most of it is older and more general, so I'd love to ask for some more modern opinions on Venice restaurants that could be a "romantic" option?

In August, my wife and I will be spending three days in Venice as part of a longer Italian honeymoon. We have a lot of fun walking around and finding places to eat in the moment, but in each destination we want to pre-book (or pre-plan if we can't reserve a table) one "romantic" restaurant. In Venice I would define this as a canal-side or lagoon-side restaurant, with a great ambiance (so would love to avoid the jam packed stretch of Grand Canal restaurants by the Rialto). Any suggestions would be welcome, from a more intimate place, to something more grand.

We'll spend the rest of our time in Venice seeking out restaurants based on food quality, so for this one we're willing to sacrifice incredible food for incredible views/ambiance.

No hardline budget, but also no minimum. If there's a casual place that checks the ambiance boxes we're interested.

Thanks in advance!

We had a lovely anniversary dinner a few months ago at Gio's which is in the St. Regis Hotel. Our table overlooked the Grand Canal, the service was impeccable, and the food was excellent. Expensive, but worth every penny.

We generally avoid canal side places to eat. They are usually overpriced and under quality. Unless you go to a really high class ($$$$) hotel restaurant.

In the Rialto Bridge area (but away from the bridge and crowds) is Trattoria Da Marco Valla Fava on Calle Stagneri. It is definitely pricy, but has excellent sea food!! Try to eat inside rather than outside. The place has been around at least 50 years so they must be doing it right.

You should be able to do a google search, check the menu, and see if it meets you needs for a special dinner.

We have eaten at Osteria Anice Stellato, which is in the Cannaregio neighborhood, many times over the years. I love that neighborhood at night (well, I love it in the daytime, too). The restaurant has mostly indoor seating, but also some tables along the canal. If you go here, walk to the neighborhood a bit early so you can walk around a bit, and even have a pre-dinner drink if you would like. A little less romantic, and no canal-side or lagoon-side seating, but delicious food, is Osteria alle Testiere.

We were in Venice for part of our 30th Anniversary trip to Italy. One of our best meals was at Ristorante Riviera at Fondamenta Zattere Al Ponte Lungo.

We ate excellent fish outside with beautiful views of the Guidecca. Food, wine and service were wonderful and I highly recommend it.

My daughters spotted this place and really wanted to go because of the "Juliet" balcony table. I bet you can see photos via google. We booked that morning via phone (but an Italian speaker made the call). We weren't the only non couple table, but it was mostly full of "twos." I don't remember prices, so it must've been in line with what we paid everywhere else and we found the food also similar. Frankly, we enjoyed all of our meals in Italy - recommended places and places we stumbled into were all good. The only exception was a pizza place in venice we tried. it was "meh."

We stayed at hotel Santa marina and this was a very close walk...
