Venice - Help with dental problem

The day has finally arrived. We fly into Venice for our first trip to Italy. My husband however lost a filling in his tooth last night and today is a national holiday so we can't get help. Has anyone had experience finding a dentist for an emergency in Venice and any idea how expensive it might be? He can't eat and the sharpness of the tooth is cutting his tongue. Not the best way to start out on our trip.

That's an impressive link and they say emergency treatment is available 7 days a week. The only problem I see is that the main office is in S'Anna di Chioggia which is quite a lot south of Venice where the peninsula of Lido joins the mainland at the very south of the lagoon - not in Venice but in the Veneto; the second office is in a suburb of Padova. Neither of the offices are particularly easy to reach without a car.

I would do all I could today to get that filled. Call your dentist's office to see if they list an emergency contact on their answering machine. Call local hospitals. My husband once got a tooth fixed on a Saturday in a small Michigan town. (Tortilla chip got wedged into a cavity.) Also, I don't think he wants to go through the pressure changes that flying brings without a filling in that tooth. I guess it depends on how severe the problem is.

I called everywhere last night including the hospital and and a provincial health service that helps source things like this and there is no emergency dental service anywhere near us. We tried both of our dentists as well. So we have no choice but to go to Venice and find help there.

Had a similar problem in Venice a couple of years ago. Visited a pharmacy and was sold a temporary filling kit. The pharmacist did say that there was a place I could vist for a more permanent solution but as I was due to go home shortly that sufficed. I would ask your hotel, they often have lists for medical emergencies, or at a pharmacy.

You don't want to leave those rough edges and the open tooth uncovered. This is what dental wax or similar substances are for. You should be able to find an emergency kit at your local pharmacy---I assume someplace will be open even if it is a holiday? You might also want to buy some Oragel or similar local anesthetic in case a toothache starts. Then find a dentist first thing on arrival in Venice---looks like Michael S. has a good suggestion. If that doesn't pan out, you can ask at a Farmacia there for a referral.

Unfortunately the link provided does sound good but out of reach. I have tried emailing the hotel but haven't heard back yet. We have made it as far as Frankfurt and are awaiting our flight to Venice. As soon as we check in, we'll look for a pharmacy for an emergency kit. I wasn't aware an emergency kit exists and that will be a huge help until we can find a dentist. Thank you everybody.
