Venice Grand Canal Cruise

I wanted to do the RS Grand Canal cruise in Venice next week and where I am staying is near where the "cruise" ends.

Does it make sense to "do" the self guided cruise as we ride (with our carry on sized luggage) to our hotel or would that be to hectic? Should I just wait until later to focus on it? Any wisdom for me?

We got a pass and rode all of the routes. We did the Grand Canal several times - all the way around. We could hop off anytime we saw something to look at more closely. It was great fun!

It is not convenient to do the RS Grand Canal guided tour when you have your luggage with you. Just because for this tour it is better to seat outside in front of vaporetto, where moveble chairs are. There is no place for luggage there. Besides, not all vaporettos #1 even have these nice front seats. And they are often crowded (to get good seats you can board at Piazzale Roma, which is end stop after S.L Stanzione). We bought a pass so it was not a problem to board in the evening at San Zaccaria where we lived (using fast #52), get to Piazzale Roma, change to good seats in #1 there and listen to the RS guded tour.

I am staying in the San Marco district. Is it possible (and does it make sense) to do Rick's Grand Canal Cruise backward? I realize this would inhibit my using his audio tour, but....
Thanks.

I believe that if you do the audio tour backwards, you'll hear a message: "Paul is dead."
