Hi everyone! Needing some opinions here, please. Our trip to Italy is almost all planned. 2 nights in Venice, 1 in Florence, 2 nights (stop unknown) and finally 3 nights in Rome. I need assistance choosing my third stop! We're looking for something somewhat between Florence and Rome. Hoping for suggestions - something mindblowing, preferably a beach town/sea side village. A place we can unwind and watch the water and relax. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any tips!
Joy, They're not beach towns, but you might consider spending a few days in either Siena or Orvieto. If you would really prefer a seaside town, one possibility would be the Cinque Terre. While there you could sit on the balcony of your hotel in the afternoon sun and enjoy Fantastic Views while enjoying a glass of Prosecco (or other beverage). The view in the photo is from my favourite hotel in Monterosso, but all of the five towns have similar views. In the evenings, enjoy fine seafood meals at some of the local restaurants that are right at the beach (or perhaps some of the local Pesto in the area where it was invented). It's relatively easy to get from the C.T. to Rome, so it would fit your plans well (about 3H:45M by direct train from La Spezia to Roma Termini). Happy travels!
I'd say add a night in Venice and a night in Florence. Fewer stops, not having to pull up stakes so many times. They have a beach in Venice (Lido) and Rome (Ostia).
IMHO, you are moving around way too much in such a short amount of time. Personally, I would choose two locations, maybe three, and see more of each. You are going to lose time checking out of the hotel, traveling between each place, finding your new hotel in a strange place, and then trying to sightsee. Buon viaggio,
I agree with Sam; add a night to Venice and Florence and don't worry about your third stop. I found that Italy shouldn't be rushed through. Even as small as Venice is, I would never do less than 3 nights. Gives you more time to soak in all of Venice, especially the non-touristy parts.
Sam is exactly correct!
After traveling to those places in the last couple of weeks I would stay the two extra days in Florence. There is so much to do. You could do a couple of day trips from there, or take a cooking class. I thought two days in Venice was plenty.
