My husband and I are planning our first trip to Italy. We fly into Rome and out of Venice. We have our hotels booked for all our stays except Venice as I find it very confusing. We won't be renting a car and would like to stay on the island. Does anyone have any suggestions for a hotel that's easy to get to the airport? Also, what's the easiest/fastest way to get to the airport from the island? water bus? or water taxi? our international flight is at 10am.

Hotel wise, we've stayed at the Ala (now a Best Western hotel) and Locanda Fiorita. http://www.locandafiorita.com/ Both are centrally located and have been good to us. As far as getting to the airport, we've always taken a water taxi. It's about 90 euro, but it's very quick and convenient. For us, that trumps the cost. Jeff

The easiest and cheapest transport to the airport is the bus service from Piazzale Roma near the train station. They start running a 5 in the morning and take you right to the airport. They cost only a few euro. With a water taxi, you'll have to walk a ways from the dock to the airport.
