My husband and son are arriving in Venice around 2 pm and will have one overnight before heading to the Dolomites to ski. On their return to Venice, they will be arriving late to the city so this will be the only time to "explore" just a bit before getting some rest.
Suggestions for what to do for the early evening and a restaurant for an early dinner? They are staying at Hotel Santa Chiara for the night.

Take a vaporetto ride from the Piazzale Roma dock next to the hotel to Piazza San Marco using the No 1 boat. Cost is 7.50 EUR pp. Check San Marco out, then walk back to the hotel, following the little signs on the building corners "Per Rialto". Check out the Rialto bridge, then continue walk back to the hotel by following the the signs "Per Ferrovia" (to train station). It is on the north side of the Grand Canal. Somewhere along the way stop for dinner. They could even do Mickey D's as they will walk right by it. When they get to the train station, they will see the bridge over the Grand Canal to the Hotel Chiara.
